training the abductors?

Post by Guest »

I do Martial arts and have been following Mr. Kurzs program for half a year. I have just started doing adductor pulldowns as recommended on his "Secrets of Stretching" DVD. That got my thinking about the abductors and whether I should any exercises for them to balance the adducor work?
The martial art I do, Taido, have some similarities with Karate, so we do kicks and uses stances like Kokutsu-dachi, does the strenght of the abductors matter here?

yes i thought about this, and started doing abductor pull ups on the same machine as adductor pull downs. I quizzed Kurz and I think he said you dont need to work on your abductors. There is no mention of needing to strenghten them in any stadion product so I would leave it.

If you think it is an area where you weak then try active strethcing, that is do your side kicks slowly and then hold out for a few seconds. You will really feel your abductors working.

Thank you, I think I will follow your advice. I guess I was also just curious if you don't need to train the abductors because they don't play an important role in kicks and stances, or because they are trained in some of the other basic exercise?
