Hi,
I’m just wondering what is so bad. I’ve got your videos etc. This guy is doing PNF stretching so why is it so bad?
Just wondering what your thoughts are on it.
Thanks
You would not wonder if you used the knowledge from my “videos etc” you say you have. So watch what he shows, listen to what he says, and compare all that with the state of the knowledge.
I was also hoping you would elaborate on what was wrong with this? For those of us that don’t have your knowledge on stretching it would be great to hear your opinions.
I already did elaborate. See my answer to Jerry. Your not having my knowledge is your choice.
Don’t see anything bad in the video. He says he trained twice a week, was consistent, used PNF. PNF is something you yourself advocate. I believe PNF strengthens the adductors at the end range meaning that the body then feels safe to continue into the splits. He does weighted cossack squat, another good exercise and straddle up is a common gymnastic conditioning exercise. Lastly I see Emmet Louis in one of the clips, I think highly of Emmet. Am I wrong? What has he said that is wrong? I obviously don’t know better in this case.. can you enlighten us?
You are not seeing anything wrong in the video because you are not paying attention. It took him one year of hard work to achieve splits–because of his ignorance of both anatomy and physiology. See my answers to Jerry and Steve.
BTW, can you point me to where I am “advocating PNF”?
Well… Why all the emphasis on “Painful” and “Brutal”? That is NOT what I understand is proper method.
Wow! Finally a straight-thinking person.
Hello,
I’ve been a avid follower of yourself and have purchased various editions of ‘Stretching Scientifically’, but I too would like to hear your opinions? I can’t see the point in sharing a video and criticising it without giving reasons for the criticism. I agree stretching shouldn’t be brutal, but is that the only thing he has done wrong?
Kind regards,
Susan
He doesn’t use even the little knowledge of anatomy and physiology Tom put in his book and in Flexibility Express. That’s what makes his stretching brutal and long.
In Flexibility Express Thomas Kurz said “stretching in weak positions leads to weakness at the maximum stretch” and that means that just spending time in the split will not actually develop strength in the stretched muscles. Has anyone of those youtubers ever made adductor flies?
So if someone cannot make progress, they should follow a program with exercises that simultaneously stretch and strengthen and are sustainable and healthy.
Wow I just lost all respect for kurz… Your really going to talk trash on a kid who put 12 months of consistent work with a legitimate program and got results.. Because its not your way…. Not cool, chill on the ego and give props where props are due..
It took him “12 months of consistent work” to achieve splits, instead of twelve weeks or less–because of his ignorance of both human anatomy and physiology. See my answers to Jerry and Steve, and comments by RMM and by PT.
12 months of “brutal” “painful” “hard work” ALL DUE TO IGNORANCE 🙂
Thomas,
You are legend my friend. I have the book SS and just bought Flexibility Express.
Are you saying using these methods, one could achieve a Side split in 12 weeks? How many times a week should i be training side split?
Mr. Kurz as well respected as you are why are your responses so snappy like an old bitter man. STAY HUMBLE!!! We are the same people who have bought your material for decades. May your bedside manner be as great as you flexibility. Peace
