role of abductors in kicking

Post by wynnema »

how come the abductors are rarely discussed with regards to strength training to improve kicks. Shouldnt you train your abductors when training your adductors in order to keep the opposing muscles balanced.

Don't you develop the abductors by doing static active flexibility?

I can only guess(because i'm no expert on anatomy) that:-
1) Abduction already out balances adduction naturally, that's why there is so much work dedicated to adduction strength.
2) When people want to develop their kicks, what they really mean is "flashier" kicks.Greater flexibility(of the adductors) will increase the height of the kicks.

Having said that,my kicking/all round body movement feels better since performing stretches such as the reverse cossack for the IT(iliotibial) band.

Dragon, can you describe the "reverse cossack" drill? I don't have any idea of what it is.
