Myofascial Release

Post by woodfin »

Myofascial Release A technique that seems to be gaining in popularity I am interested in your opinion on this specifically for kicking.

My personal situation is that i seem to have tight or short glue muscles or connective tissue making it difficult for me to do lotus position as my thigh doesn't want to go down below a 40° angle I'm wondering if you feel Myofascial Release would be beneficial?

I remember reading this free PDF by some Brad Appleton guy who discusses myofascial release... it's something that's popular on the T-nation site too. Appleton cites Kurz highly among the sources where he gained information about stretching.

He gives a very interesting theory about how it helps not only in breaking up adhesion (I think this is like crosslinking from injury scars...?) but also in creasing tiny stretches within the muscle point being pressed. It's thought-provoking.

I am wondering when you say you can't get the thigh below 40 degrees what you mean. Relative to where, are you talking about bringing the femur across to the other side of the body, transverse hyperadduction?
