Calve muscles

Post by Felix »

I'm not really sure in which forum topic to put this, but since it's mostly concerning muscles, here it goes.
I've been running for a few months now as my endurance workout and jumping rope ocasionally after my other workouts. Now I don't know where exactly it went wrong, but I now have quite some pain in between the inner side of my shins and calves. I doesn't border me with my daily activities, when I walk or even hindu squat, but if I accidentally knock it against some object or just press with my thumbs I feel quite some unconfortable feeling. It feels like it is the bones that are hurting, when I press on them, maybe it's some thin muscle layer on my bone there that's weaker than the rest of my leg muscles? Well anyhow, if I recall correctly (in other words) I read in Science of Sport Training that I should stop training the exercise that's hurting some body part (I guess running in this case) and strenghten the muscles which interfere with my running work out. My question here is, what strenghtening exercise should I do in my case or is it just rest that is needed here, and hold back from running for a while to prevent a chronic injury?

Anxiously waiting for a reply.

Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about "shin splints"? That's what your description sounds like to me. That's usually caused by running on hard surfaces (like pavement). If you're sure it's not shin splints, then I don't know what to tell you. Otherwise, I'd recommend doing a quick web search to read what others have to say about that condition.

Yeah, thanks, that might be it, cause the pain that I feel, which is at the side of my shins, I also felt after jumping robe which I used to do on pavement, but I quit doing that now for a while. As for the running, I really do my best to avoid the pavement, I walk to the forest and when there I only run on the sand paths, which are sometimes hard though.

[Edit] Woah, thanks A LOT! It seems to be exactly my problem. So it seems that it's just rest that I need. Found a bulk of information through google. First link was a direct hit. Luckily, it seems that I'm still in the early stages. So I'll definitely stop running for a while and buy some new running shoes as soon as I've recovered. Thanks again. [/Edit]
