In the video 'secrets of stretching' Mr Kurz includes jumps with kicks "for those who want to take shortcuts". I have been training with these for the last month or so, and although I have seen my ability to do more of these grow, I am unsure of the purpose.
What exactly is the purpose of jumps with kicks? Is it that it improves strength somehow or is it flexibility? How do they tie in to improving flexibility and the ability to do splits?
jumps with kicks
Hi,
I personally found that the "shortcut" in doing jumps with kicks is that it warms me up quicker and so enables me to reach a decent kicking height sooner.
I also find that the exercise helps to develop explosive strength to the legs, kinda like plyometrics.
Depends what you want to concentrate on.A flexibility routine shouldn't fatigue you like a strength workout.
Hope this helps,
Dragon

Not 100% on this but I would assume it helps because you are tricking the bodies natural reflexive reactions while applying a sudden strenuous movement.
So in a similar way to leg raises (which can often be better than most peoples relaxed split) but it is strenthening in stretched positions.
This is probably why that it is for atheletes who are already very strong and fit.
