relaxed lying hamstring and inner thigh stretches concern
relaxed lying hamstring and inner thigh stretches concern
Having already read Mr. Kurz's book, Stretching Scientifically, I saw in the relaxed stretches section the lying inner thigh stretch leading to a side split stretch with Mr. Kurz grabbing his leg (on pg. 81) and the lying hamstring stretch again with Mr. Kurz grabbing his leg (on pg. 84). So my concern is that although I realize that the best time to do relaxed stretch is when the muscles are warm after doing your main workout and that relaxed stretches are supposed to have very little to no tension and/or weight in the muscles as possible, I also realize that when do either of the stretches that the raised leg looses blood flow since the leg goes upside down while having no tension in any of the muscles of that leg (which would help to regain some blood flow back in the leg). So what should I do about the fact I would be losing warmth in that leg?
Re: relaxed lying hamstring and inner thigh stretches concern
Relaxed stretches may also been done at any time, even without a warm-up. It is best to be warmed up and slightly fatigued which will allow a greater relaxed stretch, but it is not necessary. In fact, you can get the same quality of stretch without a warm-up. It just takes longer to get there.
So the loss of warmth will not matter much, especially in a 30 second to 2 minute stretch, after a workout. There will not be such a large difference in the warmth or blood saturation in stretched muscles. If these stretches cause such a problem for you, there may be some other medical issue to attend to.
