I have noticed a number of contributors to this forum have mentioned 'Hindu Squats' as helping them improve their ROM. I come from a weightlifting background and have always performed squats with my feet flat on the floor through the full ROM, although I note that in Mr Kurz's Fall 2007 article he states that Hindu Squats should be performed with the heel up.
Can someone please explain the Hindu Squat technique correctly for me or provide a reference that describes it fully? I am concerned that I may be adopting an exercise technique incorrectly and not gaining the appropriate benefits (or worse making myself more susceptible to injury).
For those that may be interested, I am following Mr Kurz's techniques (although not as religiously as I should) and am approx 6 inches from the floor for front split and approx 10 inches for a side split. Nothing to brag about yet, but I am working on it.

Best form but shown from far away:

A close look but arms are not moving as vigorously as they should and breathing is not as strong as it should be:

Keep in mind what I wrote on swings of the arms and trunk in “Experts' Opinion on Squats” in Stadion News (Fall 2007) at http://www.stadion.com/freebies.html.

Gentlemen,
Thanks for your help, and to Mr Kurz in particular, thanks for the advice in your article. I particularly liked the bit about much stupidity coming from experts that don't do what they claim expertise in.
