Static Stretching When Muscles are Cold

Post by teotjunk »

For the last few years I have read that static stretching is best done when muscles are warm, after a workout. But recently I have been reading that it is best done when muscles are cold

Here is a link to some articles

Does anybody have anymore information about this ? Thanks

in the method explained by mr kurz it says static stretching can be done cold at any time. but the stretch obviously wont be as deep as a stretch on warm muscles. throughout this method i've come to see it that results are greatest when the muscles are sufficiently warmed.

Yep . . That's the case for me also. I can get into a deeper stretch when warmed up in a static stretch.

Does stretching cold, when you don't have time to warm up (say, 5 minutes in the morning) yield benefit? Or do all gains in flexibility only come when warm?

Any stretching is better than none. Of course if you want greater gains you'll have to put forth greater effort.

If I'm stretching warm once a day already, is the cold stretch additive or synergistic in it's effect? (this is what I meant).
