Can anyone confirm which dynamic leg swing assits flexibility for a high roundhouse kick. I cannot see how the side leg swing equates to a roundhouse, and I believe the leg swing to the rear is the raise which may assist in roundhouse kicks, as Mr Kurz's leg is always depicted as turning outwards as it swings backwards.
Is this the right leg raise to assist in round house kicks ?
Thanks

Re: Dynamic raises for roundhouse kicks
Your not seeing it may have to do with your concept of the roundhouse kick. In mine there is a positive transfer from *my* side rise.Jimbo wrote:Can anyone confirm which dynamic leg swing assits flexibility for a high roundhouse kick. I cannot see how the side leg swing equates to a roundhouse....
General advice: Feel more instead of just looking.

Thanks for the reply Mr Kurz. I feel a break through coming on. My side leg raises are up to just over belt height and improving, and this is the height of my roundhouse. However, I cannot seem to get my pelvis rotated forwards when I roundhouse kick. When I perform a side leg raise, I can move my pelvis forwards, stick out my bum, and lean my torso forwards slightly. I believe this is correct for the side leg raise. Should I be doing this when I roundhouse kick ? If so, at what point in the kick should I rotate my pelvis ?
This may be important. When I perform the side leg raise, I cannot point my foot on the ground away from the direction of the raise. If I do my hips turn in the direction of my foot. I have to perform the side leg raises with my feet almost parallel. Therefore, when I try to roundhouse kick and I try to turn my supporting leg 120 - 180 degrees away from the target, my hips turn away too much with the supporting leg, and I end up kicking downwards rather than at the target.
Could this be corrected by stretches ?
Thanks
