I am working towards achieving the front splits and I wonder what strength exercises are recommended for strenghtening the muscles involved in the front split.
Currently, I am just trying some isometric contractions in the front split position and I am doing hyperextensions, but I am not getting very satisfactory results.

Just Isometrics you will go stale quickly.
Kurz recommends being able to lift 10 reps of your weight on a barbell in a squat - easily as well as twice your weight in a deadlift for one or two reps before you START isometrics.
As well as this exercises such as the front lunge will help.

Strength exercises for front splits
Thanks for your repsonses. I must admit I have been shying away from the type of weight for squats and deadlifts recommended by Kurz. Instead, I have been trying to strengthen my legs by hindu squats, wall chair and horse stance. For my lower back, I have been doing hyperextensions. It sounds like I will need to break down and start doing some heavy iron work though.
For my inner thigh, I have been doing adductor flys as recommended by Kurz. The way I understand it is that he recommends strenghtening the muscles in their stretched position.
For the hip flexors (psoas, I think), hamstrings, and other muscles involved in the front split, is there an exercise like adductor flyes?
Is anybody willing to share their program for getting into the front split? I am already confident that I have the right program for the side splits as documented in the Kurz video "Secrets of Stretching" although I am not anywhere near that yet.
