I need help, splits in 4 months

Post by Brad_Lake »

Hi!
my name is Daniel im 29 from germany. I need help please. Im invited for a blackbelt test at april in miami FL. But i had paused last 3 years from Kickboxing. I had a lot of injuries at adductors. I tried to buy the DVD and the book from Mr. Kurz here in germany but i cant find it.

Can u please write me details about the exercises? maybe with pictures to reach my splits (side and front) in the best time? Or help me to buy the dvd and the book here??

My english isnt very good to understand every word, sorry. If u talk about muscles i m not able to find out exactely what u mean.

Thanks for every help...

Ok Brad. Your only solution is to post on the forum and present your issues there, and you may get the answers/help you need. Say what you want and we will try to help you.
Just like you, I can't buy the dvd or the book because I don't have a visa, so I had enough patience to resolve my problems on the forum. Hope you will too!

Ok. First i need a schedule. when do i have to do my exercises. And what exercises will help me fast with my problems. I dont want to hurt myself because im a little afraid that i will have some injuries if i train like i did before. I am kickboxing for 11 years now but i always had injuries at my legs because of wrong stretching exercises. I hope that i can fix the problem to do a full split fast because i dont have much time. Even if it takes longer no problem but i want to be in a good shape. Three years ago i stopped kickboxing because i was sick and need a hospital because i had somethin in my chest. Thats why i stopped training. I was flexible in the past but never like a pro and just after a long time warm up. I guess it was wrong with this exercises...

side split isnt the problem, after my warm up i can go deep with no pain. but frontsplit... i will die... *lol*
I tried the horse stand like ive seen on picture but i dont know if i understand right. do i have to press my legs together when im in the horse stand? and then relax and go deeper? sorry for my language...

thx for help

What is your specific goal? From what you say, you need to perform something?

Do you want to be able to do front splits (ie static movement) in 4 months? or be able to perform some move as a part of a kata/form that involves splits (ie dynamic movement?)

Also what is your current stretching/strength/training routine?

Both, but just static important for test

lets say we have to show a demonstration or performance i dont know the corrct word. but here we dont have such things as Kata. Its just kickboxing here, no kata. So i guess we will show how we train, selfdefence, amateur kickboxing like sparring. So i want to do front splits fo that. i want to sit there in front splits. to show them my flexability. side split isnt far away from the ground. I started 4 weeks ago with rope skipping, swimming, combination drills and stretching. but because i was unsatisfied about my exercises i was looking for something new. in the second week i almost injured myself again like it happend in the past a lot. i guess its because im too much motivated. i really want that but i use wrong exercises. i use a lot partner exercises, even machines in the past. i lost my body feeling for what is good and whats not i guess. ive seen two exercises from mister kurz. the horse stand and the exercise for the sidesplit. after i tried that ( i dont know if i did right) i felt a lot better in my movements. I was able to kick to the head with no pain. In the past i felt quite often that something is wrong with my kicks because in the movement i had sometimes short pain from adductors and pelvis. but after i tried this one time there was not a bad feeling. thats why i guess that the exercises are good and what i need. Sure Mr. Kurz is an expert but a lot of people say theire experts so i had to find out who is the right for me. Im happy that i found this page... :-)

So i want to do full front split and side split, not in motion just like sit there. I dont need it in motion and i guess i have more time to develop the techniques when im back from Miami.

thx for helping me. i will post pictures if im sucsessfull.

and ive heard that i need to strength my legs or the adductors. I havnt trained that ever. So i guess my legs are weak...

lets say i need the full programm...!!!

If it neeeds more time to get me into it, no problem. i just want to be in good shaper there and no injuries. i can develop splits later when im back too. i wont give up anymore. i quit splits often in my past because the ijuries make me feel bad and i had a lot. just one time i had no injuries, when i paused kickbox training and i did my training alone. maybe thats why mr. kurz saiys partner exercises sucks.

Hi Brad

What I suggest you do is:

1) Write down your full normal weekly workout plan (what do you do on Monday - at what time and in what order. Eg do you do a morning, afternoon and/or evening workout?).
2) When you have your full plan, compare it to the advice given in the articles by Mr Kurz at http://www.stadion.com/column.html . In particular pay attention to the articles:

12. A Well-Run Workout: The Warm-Up
13. How to Select Exercises for a Warm-Up
14. A Well-Run Workout: The Main Part
15. A Well-Run Workout: The Cool-Down
16. Examples of Good and Bad Workouts
17. Weekly Training Schedule

Also, make sure you read:

18. Principles of Conditioning for Sports and Martial Arts
19. Sequence of Conditioning Exercises for Fighters and Martial Artists in Long-Term Training and in a Single Workout
20. Beginning Strength Exercises for Abdomen and Lower Back
21. Advanced Strength Exercises for Lower Back—Your Best Insurance against Back Pain
22. Martial Arts and the Squat
23. Strength Exercises for Hip Flexors—the Main Kicking Muscles

3) When you have read all these articles, go back to your original training plan and adjust it to match the advice given in these articles.
4) When you think you are happy with your plan, post it here and I am sure people will be able to give you further advice and tips.
