My PT tells me that I need to work on flexibility in my hip flexors. She's given me several stretches to do in order to stretch different hip flexor muscles. One of the stretches isn't really working for me, but she doesn't know of an alternative. Perhaps someone can help.
The stretch consists of sitting on the floor, or attempting to do so, with knees bent, buttocks touching the ground between the feet, and toes pointing away from the body. My ankles will not turn out far enough to get my heels on the ground. So I only feel the stretch in the ankle and the knee, and I can't get my butt down on the ground or even anywhere close to it. It doesn't even work with one leg.
I understand this is an attempt to stretch a particular part of the hip flexor muscle, and I wonder if there is an alternative stretch that will address this part of the muscle without the stress to the knee and ankle.
variation of hip flexor stretch
It's not a stretch i'd choose to perform due to the amount of strain it causes.Plus,i feel there are much better hip flexor stretches.
I'm not your PT though,so i will assume she knows what's best for you.
Going off the description you gave, this may be a milder alternative which you will probably be able to do:-
