Side split picture
Side split picture
Hello again guys! I am little confused about Mr Kurz's picture of him doing the side split on the floor. This question (please excuse me for asking such a question): the feet are not in line with the hips, right?
I haven't got the picture to check, but from memory if its the side-on picture then it may be that Mr Kurz is rocking back slightly to maintain his balance.CrazyBoy wrote:the picture I'm referring to is the one Mr Kurz doing the side split on the floor, in his book. I don't why I had the impression that the feet are not in line with the hips.
Because of the required alignment of the hips its impossible to remain bolt upright while doing the side split. You need to arch your back, tilt your pelvis forwards and stick your bum out. So your upper body leans forwards slightly and your lower body appears to rock backwards to compensate. Thus from the side it might look as though the feet & hips are not absolutely in a straight line - perhaps this is what's confusing you?

Mat it's not the side-on picture, but the front-on view that's confusing me. I don't want to sound stupid. You'll probably say" hey this guy has been on this forum for almost an year..." I was reading the book and at a more carefull analysis I had the impression that in the picture Mr Kurz doesn't have the feet on the same line with the hips. It appears as if the feet are a little in the front than the hips.
