Stress fracture

Hi
I have recently been informed that i am probably suffering from a stress fracture in my foot. I was instructed that the only effective treatment is rest, or in extreme cases to plaster the foot for a long period of time. Just wondering if anyone else has suffered a similar injury and has had success with an alternate treatment. Thanx.
