Helping aids.

Post by Pu-key »

Im getting a kicking and stretching aid for Christmas. Is there any strength exercises I can do on it? Plus, can I also use it for this stretching method. I know instead of doing the main side split stretch showed in stretching scientifically, you can just raise the leg to the side. It would be better to do it with a pulley.

Depends what kind of kicking/stretching aid it is.I use a pulley sometimes for hamstring stretches.
A lot of stretching machines are very pricey for what they have to offer.

Yes, it is a pulley. I brought it off ebay, but as it is a Christmas present, I can't get it to Christmas...lol. Sorry, but I don't have a picture of it, but it is a reasonable aid.

The one's i've seen on Ebay are from Canada called Flexi-max.
This is the same one i use.
CrazyBoy:-To stretch the hamstrings, stand in front of the pulley with your foot in the noose and lift(you should be in front kick position).

And is it a good alternative to deadlifts? I still have a back ache and I can't deadlift as I could before the injury. Doing this exercise will benefit me?

No this is only a relaxed stretch, not a strength exercise. There are alternatives to the deadlift that may help.

i've just got a flexi-max. do you find it helps dragon for stretching or for kicks. Are you supposed to keep increasing the height when you practise the kicks??

I find it very beneficial for stretching(hamstrings especially) and active stretching.Never tried it for kicking practice before.

I just wanted to ask why do you use a flexi-max if you are able to do splits? Isn't it enough to just slide into split and maintain flexibility that way?

cheers

Well, even though the splits(front or side) allows you to fully stretch,i also like to stretch in different positions for variety.
To me,a standing hamstring stretch(using a pully to hoist the leg) is more intense than the seated(reach for the leg) version or the front split.

Could anyone post a link for this flexi-max? I do not know what it is and would like to see a picture of it to have an idea. Thanks

Since I'm getting Flexi-max too, can I do the "raising the leg sideways" stretch for the side split (you should know which one I'm on about). Plus does anyone know any strength exercises for the adductors I can do on the pulley?
