Using a partner?

Post by CrazyBoy »

Hello! I know that mr. Kurz doesn't reccomend working for flexibility with a partner, due to the high risk of injury. Knowing this I accidentally saw on "Stretching scientifically" table of contents (on the site, I don't have it for more info) the topic : the use of partners... Can anyone tell me more?

In the book he says the same thing you say... basically that stretching with partners is a waste of time as one is doing nothing while the other is working... and also because of dangers of injury.

But I know a few stretching drills with a partner's aid which I think are very good. Should I drop them?

If you list the drills that you find useful with a partner it would help in finding you alternatives(without a partner).

Dragon excuse me for not replying much faster. I think you know drills as the ones where you put your leg on your partener's shoulder and he lifts it up and other like this.
I want to ask you: what's your opinion on stretching with a pulley?

Personally,yes,i do use a pully(flexi-max).
The main reason a partner shouldn't be used is because they don't feel what you feel.
I certainly don't regard a simple pully system as a stretching device,it's just an easily ajustable foot rest for performing hamstring stretches(that's all i use a pully for anyway).
I personally don't use the pully for isometrics, only for relaxed stretching.Pressing down with maximum contraction for isometrics would make me weary of the pully/rope snapping(even though this could probably never happen with the amount of weight pully's can take).

Dragon, I've asked that cause I've seen many movies where the martial artists stretch by using a pulley. And not just in the movies, some karate books reccomend this kind of drill to improve one's flexibility.
