Ok, I think I understand how the stretching works can some one confirm this for me please.
To be able to kick high I need to concentrate on my dynamic flexibility.
My dynamic flexibilty is limited to the rom in my hip joints and the best way to increase the rom in my hips is by isometric stretching.
Are the above assumptions correct? I have read so much about stretching I can't seem to see the wood for the trees now.
If I have misunderstood please correct me.

Confused...some clarification needed
It is true that people can kick high without doing splits, but that does not mean their dynamic (active or passive) ROM is greater than their static passive ROM (even below the pain threshold). It is a false impression of undiscerning observers, which can be proved with the proper measurement of both types of ROM.
