I did the test and as I understand it I can never achieve a front split and probably not a side split. I find the side split test somewhat confusing: is it possible that you kind of cheat in the test by twisting your pelvis?

I think it would be easier to cheat doing the side split test with toes pointing up.You could twist your pelvis into a front hamstring stretch(theoretically).
It would be harder to cheat if you did it with your foot on it's side(side kick position).If you do the test this way you must remember to rotate your pelvis forwards.
Personally though i don't recall ever doing the tests.
