Hindu Squats

Here's the explaination that's written there:
"Hindu squat. Start standing up, back straight, head up, chest up, feet hip-width apart. Feet point forward or slightly out—whatever feels good on the knees. Reach forward with your arms and then pull back as in a rowing motion until your fists are even with your chest. As you pull your arms back, inhale. Start to exhale and squat down letting your arms fall behind your hips. As you squat your heels raise off the floor so you are squatting on the balls of your feet. Squat as low as you can but do not bounce at the bottom. Rise up, simultaneously reaching forward with your arms as you inhale. The breathing pattern is opposite that of standard squats (without those rowing arm movements) and squats with weights. Throughout the whole squat keep your back straight. Repeat the cycle."

I really like hindu squating myself, it makes me take very deep breaths, which are difficult to make in many other exersices like sit-ups and pushups (except hindu push-ups). Never had any problems performing HS, except muscle soreness a couple of times. And that's the only 'dark side' of HS I can think of... I think it's just too easy to overwork with HS. I never really notice when my muscles get fatigued. Does this sound familiar to anybody?

What I find more common is that on leg days where I have a good amount of energy, I am hasty and "pop" through the movement too fast. After getting the "Power High Kicks with No Warm Up" DVD, I changed my strength routine and only do Hindu squats after considerable leg work so that they are pretty exhausted and I am much more aware of my technique. Strange, but it works for me.
To add, HS have helped the popping in my knees that came with mixing heavier weighlifting and martial arts.
hindu squats strengthen the knees. Just because your knees are bad doesnt mean that other people cannot get great benefits from hindu squats.
Also if you feel they aggravate a knee condition you can perform them whilst holding onto a doorframe and leaning back. This stops your knees from passing over your feet which can aggravate some knee conditions.
Hindu squats have been used for many years by many people. I suggest you try and do a little research instead of posting a comment based on your ignorance.

Wynnema if you are some kind of medical doctor or sport expert, than this ceartinly isn't for you but if you are not than step out from blindeness and stick the ignorance word up your ...!
Yes I did research before and after my injury. I know that many great exponenst did hindus/dands, but do you know how many of them have bad knees after stoping the sports carier?
And no hindu dont strenghten the knees but something else.
Also now couple of years after injury I do weighted squats easy or pistols. Yes, in my rehabilitation I did use door frame or swiss ball for squats of any kind.
How come that I can't post it my view on something. I didn't write there that nobody shouldn't do them. Just my opinion on my experience, nothing else.

I must say I agree with robiryu in that there are no absolutes. There are many exercises which are good...but good for who? It all comes down to the individual...their past health record, the current stage they are at in training and their future goals.
I will make only a few comments to your ranting post which is difficult to follow at times because of your difficulties with english.
Firstly I did not insult you, whereas insulting me was how you started your post so to say it was not your intention to offend me is actually more insulting.
Secondly you posted "I didn't write there that nobody shouldn't do them" which although doesnt make much sense is actually a contradiction as your first post was "I just must say that dont't do hindus they are bad for knees. After doing them I went to surgery".
This comes across as "dont do hindu squats or you will need surgery". Hardly comes across as an opinion of your experience, more like a warning.
Also pistols put a greater stress on the knee than hindu squats as all your weight is on one knee. How you can say hindus are bad and then say you now do pistols and weighted squats makes no sense.

Everyone is entitled to offer advice and share personal experiences.It wouldn't be much of a forum if we didn't.It's up to the individual reading it whether they follow that advice or not.

All i will say is if you can't/don't want to do hindu squats then there are more than enough alternatives out there that will still help you to progress in the same way.
