Alternatives to Deadlift

Post by CrazyBoy »

What are alternatives to a deadlift? I still have a back ache and I can't deadlift as I could before the injury. I tried it tonight and it felt great, though I think I will feel more if I increase the resistance (weight). I just gave it a go tonight. BTW, thanks for those pics, it sure helped a lot.
Please can you present those alternatives?

As long as you are injury free and you've cleared it with a doctor, one of the best exercises for strengthening the back is the deadlift lockout(sometimes called the health lift).

Start with a barbell in a rack(or on sturdy supports) at just above knee level and deadlift it from there. The shorter range of motion means you can move a lot more weight.
A few things to remember:-
1.Even though the ROM is reduced you should still use correct deadlift form(conventional deadlift, not stiff leg deadlift).Don't just bend over and attempt to lift.
2.This is not an exercise to increase flexibility, endurance,or even muscle mass. This is a power drill that builds strength.
I perform 3 warm up sets of 5 reps,1 work set of 3-5 reps, and 1 back down set of 3-5 reps(90% of my work set weight).
