Holding out leg to the side

Post by Moe »

I know that to be able to hold the leg to the side or higher than your head for a couple of seconds deals with static active flexibility. I myself can hold my leg out to the side and hold it there, but not higher than that.
My first point is, strangely enough at home I can easily hold out my leg to the side (both right and left) and can hold them for a while.
When I go to training, I find myself struggling to balance on one leg to hold the other one out! (its part of warm up)
I dont know why it happens but its like that all the time. Can at home, can't at training. Could it be the shoes?

If it's simply a matter of balance, not strength then it is quite possible it's the shoes you're wearing.Other things to consider are the surface you're standing on,if you get intimidated having people watching you in class, and whether you're out of breath.

I'm not sure maybe its the fact that we do this stretch after running for warm up and maybe at the time I'm excited or something.
But in order to raise the leg higher and keep it there requires alot of power and strength or?

It doesn't require power as the drill involves a static hold.
You need leg strength and balance(if you aren't allowed to hold onto something).
