Increasing My ROM

Post by skoolboi704 »

Hi this is my first post!!

I am a jamskater and I have started breakdancing. A lot of the moves performed require being able to keep your legs spread in a large V position. With that being said, I have started to focus on increasing my range of motion as if I were trying to get into a side split. Honestly I have been stretching constantly for about 2 months. I have noticed that I am able to touch my nose on my leg now when stretching forward, which is a big improvemnt for myself.

When I'm stretching for side splits for example I will sit with my back against the couch and I will spread my legs as far as I am able, then my girlfriend will push my legs apart to help increase my ROM. My problem is that once I get to about 90 degrees I am not able to get any further. What I am also confused about is that once at that point I don't feel pain, or even the stretch in my hamstrings, but I do feel pain in my groin area and I'm not able to go any further.

Am I doing something wrong, or are there some stretches I can perform to improve this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Purchase and read carefully "Stretching Scientifically," and then buy the DVD "Secrets of Stretching" and watch it several times. Both are available on this site. It sounds like you're trying to become more flexible, but you don't have the knowledge to get you were you want to go. The book and DVD will give you that knowledge.
