Hi,
Isn't it correct that I should have the pelvis perpendicular to the legs when I perform the front splits?
When I try to do the front splits my pelvis wants to turn to align with the legs. It won't turn that far but anyway...
I get quite a bit down in the splits when I let the pelvis align where it wants but must lean my trunk forward.
If I really try to hold the pelvis straight I feel tension going from the front of the hip down to the groin and I can't go down far at all.
So...my real question is, is there other stretching routines for that hip muscles than the front splits?
When I do the excercise shown in "Stretching scientifically" that looks like a forward lunge it only stretch the front of the hip not the muscle that stretch when I try to hold my pelvis straight.
It is also important because I tend to feel quite a bit of stretch in these muscles when I try too hard at jumping wheel kicks. I do want to kick without being afraid to tear anything.
Hope it made sense...

More front splits question
Hi,
This is the same as my question but you've put it better.
From what i have read(Pavel tsatsouline) it says the hips should be square with the thigh/knee pointing towards the floor.I've tried this, guess what?....Not a chance!!
I found this so painful down the front of my hip(and not a good type of hard work pain!)that i doubt i'd even spend time trying to achieve it.
As Wynnema posted to my question, the front split with your knee facing out(i assume this is what happens to you when your pelvis turns) is called a martial arts split.
I am still confused though as to why Mr.Kurz doesn't perform the extreme type of front split with thigh pointing down in his book but all of the individual stretches for the thigh and the flexibility potential test do have the thigh/knee in this position.

Hi,
I suspected that the two were connected but I wasn't sure. So I decided not to hijack your thread if it wasn't the same problem.
I've never tried to do the front splits with my foot and knee straight so I don't really know if it feels different, gonna try it next time I work out.
I do know of the pain you describe though...
Hope someone has some idéas or we might have to bite down on a stick to achive the splits.
