my spilts - please assist
Hi,
I have had the book for 1 year now and have done the dynamic leg raises in the morning with GREAT RESULTS. I started every day, then took some time off and now and about 5 days a week
Do I continue this? I have stagnated.
MIDDLE SPLITS
I can do the split test. HOWEVER, when I do it, my foot is in a different position on either side. i.e left side the toes point upwards when leg is relaxed whilst the other side my toes are parallel to the floor when relaxed
when doing the splits standing, this occurs also and the two sides are not symmetrical,
Is this bad? What do I do?
thanks

Are your feet in different positions because they have to be or because they just naturally assume that position?
If it is impossible to alter their position then i'd say you need professional advice.
If they just assume that position but it's not painful if you try and alter it then maybe some "fine tuning" of your body position may help.

If certain muscles are tight then maybe isolating each side when you stretch may be helpful. That way you can check your body position more easily than when doing both sides together.
Are you just stretching for health benefits or are you a martial artist?
If you are just stretching for health then i'm not sure if having you feet at different positions could set you up for injury. If you're a martial artist though i'd say there is a greater risk if your kicks have different foot positions.

sounds like you are doing a martial art split instead of side splits.yendor28 wrote:Hi,

What is your doctor basing his diagnosis on?Has he just tested your range of motion and posture or have you had x-rays?
The reason i ask is because when i was 18 i went to a "specialist" who told me if i didn't give up training i'd need a walking stick when i'm 25.
Not knowing any better i did as he suggested.10 years later i went to a good chiropractor who told me the specialist probably had a problem with contact sports as what i was told was inaccurate!!
Needless to say i started training again and things are going well, still disappointed that i've got 10 years of catching up to do though.
Ah well,that's my life story...
Point being, don't get to disppointed with what you were told as you can get a second opinion.Even if your sports doctor is right,it's better to keep training than to injure yourself by trying to force the splits.Plenty of martial artists can't do the splits but it doesn't mean they lack ability.
As for strengthening your back, you need to diagnose the weakness.Get a detailed check up to find the specifics of you problem.
