side splits with weights

Post by guest007 »

Hello everyone,
I've recently purchased a pair of 7.5 kg dumbells to aid my side-split stretching. I have only the earlier edition of Mr Kurz book and not his video. I stretch and put the dumbells close to the sides of my hips at the top of the legs and do the isometric stretches. I would like to know if I am using the weights correctly, because it is hard to hold the dumbells in the hands infront of oneself.

Thanking you in anticipation.

I like your commitment.
Now, using a weight like a bumbell can aid you really well but also has disadvantages.
When I first began using Mr. Kurz methods, I was in a rush to be able to do splits. It never happened for a long time and the reason was because I did not do exactly what was suggested to do!
It took me ten years of on again off again attempts!

Two years ago I attempted again and now I have full side and front splits. I can kick almost vertical without warming up and can hold vertical kicks when I have warmed up.

I used weights also to add more resistance but I only did this when I was close to the floor. Make sure yu are doing squats and lunges to strenthen your muscles.
With the weight you are using, it is light so do not worry too much. Do not go crazy and hold heavey weights at all. Your body needs to adjust and you need to just let it happen. If you legs are strong. You have strenthened your back. Then you will get your split. Do you also train for front splits because they play a big part in training for the side splits.
