Question

Post by CrazyBoy »

Hello sports fanatics :D

I have a question regarding warm-up and splits. This often occurs to me when I perform my stretching routine: I do the warm-up and afterwards the front and side split. That being said, I have a problem. Everytime I do such routine, i always end-up with muscle soreness, mostly in my hamstrings. But, here's the funny part. If I don't perform the warm-up and perform the front splits (not warmed-up) I don't feel any soreness whatsoever. Why do I feel so?

Could it be that it's the warm-up that's causing the soreness and you might be overdoing it?

I don't think I am overtraining, cause I perform the splits very rarely: once i a week. The problem is when I do the splits with a warm-up. It seems that only then I am sore. I want to understand the mechanicanism. Does anyone knows why???

Hello,

can you describe your warm up, before the splits? So you feel soreness only in the hamstrings, not adductors?

I have no idea why you're sorer with a warm-up. Either your warm up is wrong, or the warm up is giving you too much confidence (and you over-exert yourself in the splits).

If you're only doing it once a week, it may be you're not doing it often enough (your system is not getting accustomed to doing the splits), or you're doing it too intensely.

Suggest practising the splits much more regularly (every day?) and with less intensity. 1 min quick warmup (leg raises) followed by 2 mins' stretching.

Or perhaps try Mr. Kurz's daily 1-minute routine which he showed in a video in another thread - did you see that? Whooo!

Cheers,
Mat

I've seen that video, amazing how he gets up from the side split with tensing the adductors, amazing strenght.
