Inborn flexibility???

Post by CrazyBoy »

Ok, I have the book in front of me and it says: "Outside of pathological cases, there is no such thing as inborn flexibility". I said this to someone and he said that this is not true because he knew some persons who could performed the side split (or displayed a much greater flexibility than him) without practicing any particular sport.
Can someone explain the reason for this quotation? Don't want to be misunderstood. I am just asking.

The people who are extremely flexible for "no reason" may have been born with a medical condition sometimes refered to as "double jointed".

This would come under the pathological cases Mr.K may be refering to.

People who are said to be double jointed have hypermobility.Their ligaments, tendons, and joints can bend and stretch more than the average person.
