I am about 2 inches from a full side split. I find the hardest part of the whole thing for me is to keep my back straight. When I see Mr. Kurz move down into the split he has no trouble keeping his torso upright through the whole motion. When I move into the split first thing I feel is like I'm going to fall forward.
I do strength training, I thought it stood to reason my back wasn't strong enough to keep me upright, but I can do hypers, usually sets of 10 reps with 2/3 of my body weight, 4 to 5 sets. I can deadlift 2 1/4 times my body weight and can do reps of good mornings seated and standing with 100% of my body weight.
I know that I have met some of the weights and reps set to strengthen my back, however I'm not sure if I'm not strong enough, not in the correct position or what ever else I've not thought of, any help would be great.
All comments are welcome,
thanks

Keeping my back straight question...
If you look in these topics for Horseman's stance, As that is what u need to work on, I am just about flat in the splits as well I started doing these 3,5 7 Horsemans stance with 50kg barbell on my shoulders and I have added this stengthening in my Stretching Program that I do 4 time a week without fail. and i can see gains again in my stretching.....

Keeping my back straight question...
Standing in the horse-riding stance can help. Try looking up, or even hold a weight (a few kilos will do) above your chest. Another solution: Stand in your lowest straddle stance or sit in the side split, support yourself on your hands so your trunk is as vertical as it can get and then try to lift your hands.
