I have seen the horse stance pictures and the knees are over the toes. For Box Squatting, they advise to NOT let the knees go over the toes, but for one to sit back and have the shins perpendicular to the floor.
Are the shins positioned different for the Horse Stance than for Box Squats?

Horse Stance vs Box Squats shin positioning?
In the horse-riding stance and in squats keeping your knees from going past your toes makes you lean your trunk more forward than when you let your knees go past your toes.
