Relaxed Stretch Question

Post by KevinO »

I have begun the program outlined in the Secrets of Streching dvd and have a question about the relaxed stretch for the side split. For this stretch, Mr. Kurz basically puts himself into a split, but puts his weight on his arms so the leg muscles as relaxed as possible. Being new to the program, however, I am so far off the ground that I can not rest on my forearms. Trying to do so puts weight on and requires strength of my legs, which obviously negates the purpose of the stretch. Can someone suggest a relaxed stretch for those who can't reach the ground with their forearms yet? Perahps one side at a time? I would love to hear someone else's thoughts or advice on this. Thanks for your help.
Best,
Kevin

Hi,
Rather than performing different stretches you may find it easier to still keep practicing the relaxed split with a chair/bench in front of you.

You can rest your forearms(or your chest if that's more comfortable) on the chair/bench and allow yourself to concentrate on your leg flexibility instead of the uncontrolable trembling in your arms from holding yourself up......(been there myself many years ago!)

That was a great idea. I did it this weekend with a foot-stool and it worked perfectly. I look forward to the day when I don't need it, though.
Many thanks for your help.
