Sports Injury Textbook?

A while back I had read something by Mr Kurz recommending a specific textbook on sports-related injuries; I had looked it up on Amazon and found it, but didn't buy it due to the cost. It did look like an excellent text, though.

Does anyone have, or recall, the name of that book?

Martin, I'm curious also as to your lack of gains in flexibility. A few questions: 1) What was your level of flexibility before starting with dynamic stretching and isometrics? 2) Could you kick head height prior to starting? 3) What is your current weight, height, and level of fitness? I really fai...

Popping Sounds

I also experience this "popping" sound and feeling; it happens only when I do left sided front leg swings. I have mentioned it to my chiropracter and massage therapist, and neither seem concerned; basically, if it does not cause pain or discomfort, just keep an eye on it. In my case, I believe it's ...

1) No, you're not too late.

2) Better idea on choosing a martial art is to research a few yourself, and pick one you like. Not one your friends like, not one that someone told you is "the best".

Side Kick Help

I'll see if I can help you out with a few tips. It's a bit hard to pinpoint mechanical problems without seeing firsthand how you kick. The main question that comes to mind is "How do you chamber your kicking leg?". I think this may be the main area where your side kick might develop a more roundhous...

Probably the best type of exercise for jumping height would be plyometrics---do a search on the web, and you'll get a ton of info.

An example would be to stand on a box about two feet high, jump off and land with both feet on the ground, and immediatlely jump up again.

I too had trouble when I first started the side leg raises; I had to modify my foot placement also. To this day, I still use the "heel toward target" of my supporting leg. I haven't tried to keep my feet both parallel, since I don't kick that way. I found taht Kurz wasn't very specific on foot place...

Mr Kurz, Thanks for adding some input on this thread; your opinions and experience are much appreciated! After 3 hamstring pulls (you'd think I'd have figured it out by 1) on the supporting leg, I'm realizing what needs to be done. From "Stretching Scientificaly"---one reader had asked why he felt a...

DVD format?

When on EARTH is Stadion going to put that video out on a DVD format?
I've heard so much about it, but in this day and age there's people (like myself) that have pitched the 'ol VHS out.

Thanks for your replies, guys. I had actually thought I had the hamstring pull mystery beat, but just last wek, I pulled my RIGHT hamstring, doing the exact same thing---high side kick (this time left leg kicking), near the end of class, pull to the supporting leg. WOW, talk about frustration. So---...

Dehydration a Main Key in Muscle Pulls?

In the past 3 months, I've had two major hamstring pulls in my left leg. Scenario is as follows: hour of TKD, sparring at the end of class, high right side kick, and <bam>, left ham pull. I've studied Kurz's book, I've adhered to prevention/recovery, but I couldn't figure out why it happened a secon...

Best way to increase VO2 max?

Our fire department recently began testing new recruits utilizing VO2max results. As a member of the recruitng committee, I'm going to take this test sometime down the road. My question is, is there a specific type of training to increase one's VO2max? I'd imagine HIIT would be useful, but I'd like ...
