The P90X training program
I just got the P90X training system and from what I can tell, its training routines are really good. It's a program that is set up to get you "in the best shape of your life" in 90 days. I'm definitely no expert but based on what I've read with regard to sports training and putting together good rou...

Crunches and Sit-ups
I was wondering, when you are able to do 2 sets of crunches at 100 reps a piece are you ready to go on to doing sit-ups? After you go on to sit-ups, do you continue doing crunches or do you leave those behind and only do sit-ups? Do you only do reverse crunches when you can do a sufficient number of...

Stability Balls: Is it ok to use them?
At the place I work out at they don't have a Roman Chair for me to do my back extentions on, nor do they have a bench high enough. One of the trainers there showed me how you can do back extentions on a stability ball and how I can do them holding weights as well. I find some problems with this. Fir...

Re: "Lengendary Abs" and abdominal strengthening
Actually, the argument you put up claiming to be the argument used by the author of Legendary abs is a good example of a strawman since the author's original argument had no premises involving straight legs. The title of the chapter in Legendary Abs you quoted from is "The Good Word on Sit-Ups: Don...

Re: "Lengendary Abs" and abdominal strengthening
My answer to your question: Probably yes. But why don't you do it and find out yourself? Actually, you didn't have to answer the questions on this since I had already found your answers in your columns but I appreciate you answering them nonetheless. About my question “And what moron does sit-ups w...

Re: Question about my strength training routine
If you are following column #19, then you would gauge when your ready from your muscle endurance instead of aerobic endurance. The reason again why wait for your muscle endurance is so you will not have sloppy technique and injure yourself with your weight training and eventually martial arts train...

Re: A suggestion to Mr. Kurz when he answers questions
Here I quote that fourth question from my column 24: "You state that leg exercises are to be added to the strength routine when one can perform 3 sets (10–15 reps) of back extensions on the bench with additional weight greater than 1/3 of the body weight. If I interpret this statement correctly, th...

Praise for Mr. Kurz
I just wanted to say that what Mr. Kurz has done here is a great thing. After reading 32 of his columns in the last 2 days I've learned a great deal and am eager to read more. I even started reading his "Science of Sports Training" since he refers to it so often and I ordered the book on squats and ...

A suggestion to Mr. Kurz when he answers questions
I'm sorry but I was quite put off by the way you (Mr. Kurz) had answered a question from a gentleman who, as far as I could see, had a legitimate concern. I'm referring to his answer to the fourth question in Column #24. First, I thought the lesson on the meanings of words like "martial" and "art" t...

Where do the numbers come from?
I was reading column 24 and I was reminded of a question I had. I've read talk of 500 sit-ups before going on to more advanced hip flexor (iliopsoas) exercises, added weight of 1/3 your body weight doing back extentions before going on to general leg exercises, your body weight (or twice your body w...

:? im getting worried. is kurz's side split a wrong thing to do? Well, I've been arguing that it puts unnecessary lateral stress on the knees but others like Dragon have been arguing that it doesn't put that much pressure on the knees and that you are less likely to get hurt doing that stretch than...

Re: "Lengendary Abs" and abdominal strengthening
That is why Kurz recommends martial artist do many situps. So if your worried about your back from doing situps then you should also wonder about your martial arts training because your kicks will tug on your back also. Right. I just found the answer to my question about this in Column 24. It is ve...
