Re: Nutrition Rant

Yeah, I suppose so. Although I wish somebody would just get their act together and provide a huge amount of scientific proof that their nutritional plan works. I'll keep researching. I forgot to mention the American College of Sports Medicine. They issue position stands on various sports topics. Th...

Re: Nutrition Rant

I'm reading the book, "Enter the Zone" by Barry Sears and it's fabulous. The Zone diet has a balance of 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and 30% fat. According to the numerous studies listed in the book, it is an almost perfect eating plan. I highly recommend reading it. Before following Sears' reco...

Re: A couple of questions for anybody who can help me

Does having a day of "complete rest" mean you don't even do stretching on that day? Yes, but don't make it a religion. Seems like you are either compulsive about stretching or don't believe in the effectiveness of rational training (including flexibility development). Both are the signs of not trai...

Re: Patrick Smith's Training Log

I'm redesigning my workout schedule since after rereading most of Thomas Kurz's articles I see many errors in it. I'll update this thread once I have finished. Please do. Those articles are packed with info, aren't they? Too much to absorb on one reading. I think you'll find that posting your worko...

Re: A couple of questions for anybody who can help me

Should one day per week be a day of complete rest? As a rule--yes. Exceptions are made by elite athletes during periods of intensive training and then not for very long. Does having a day of "complete rest" mean you don't even do stretching on that day? I know it's 6 years after the last post but s...

Patrick Smith's Training Log

Hi, I'm trying to polish up my weekly training routine, and I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions that you have. Please be honest, even if it borders on harshness... WIP Training Schedule Monday AM - Dynamic stretches PM - Tae Kwon Do class (which includes dynamic stretches in the beginning and...

Re: New to this, need help with routine

Thanks for the reply. I agree that it would be helpful for you to know what I'm capable of, as the routine you descibed above sounds pretty solid but I think I'm a bit more advanced than that. First off, I'm actually in pretty good shape, I just have weak core muscles - that's pretty much it. I can...

Re: New to this, need help with routine

Yes, your friend is correct. You are definitely not ready for isometric stretches yet. Don't worry, though, once you develop the strength for the splits, the splits aren't far off. In my opinion, and from what I believe the DVD "Secrets of Stretching" teaches, you should be doing primarily a core wo...

Body weight vs. External weight strength exercises

Hi, I'm a new member here and I have a question that I would prefer to be answered by Mr. Kurz, but I welcome anyone else's input as well. I do not want to take up any more of your time then necessary, so I will get straight to the point. As the title already states, my question is about using purel...
