Trunk dynamic stretches
Hi, First of all, I wanted to ask if the following sets/reps are proper for developing flexibility: trunk: rotations: 4x20 (20 = 10 to each side) side bends: 4x20 (20 = 10 to each side) forward bends: 3x15 bends to the back: 3x15 Secondly, It's a bit difficult to keep my torso upright when trying to...

Re: Lactic acid and its influence on acidosis
Interestingly enough, a review of the aforementioned paper (http://ajpregu.physiology.org/cgi/content/full/289/3/R891) concludes the opposite: In conclusion, it is useful and instructive to accurately follow the path of protons in metabolic pathways. We agree with the data as summarized by others (1...

Re: My experience with martial arts
Becoming a recent karateka myself (4 months) and having a finger dislocated in the dojo (got kicked in the hand while doing an open handed block), I can feel your pain, and am very sorry for your experience(s). I'm lucky enough to fall under a very very proficient instructor whose technique is light...

Lactic acid and its influence on acidosis
Hi, I got my Science of Sports Training a few days ago, and have just started reading it. On p. 14, it says this regarding acidosis: Speed-endurance work such as all-out efforts lasting 15-50 seconds lead to increased acidity of body fluids. Even a single all-out effort of about 35 seconds can raise...

Re: Stretch Yourself - Hindu Push-ups and Hindu Squats
I've always been told that it is dangerous to go through such sudden changes in temperature... that they could possibly cause muscle cramps or something.
Is there any truth behind that? Seeing that Mr. Kurz went to freezing weather right after his intense strength training.

Re: developing dynamic- sets/reps
To add to califo's questions... Do I also do front leg and back leg raises with LOCKED knees (that is completely straight legs), or are the legs not straight there as well?

Re: developing dynamic- sets/reps
3) Before showing the isometric stretches the book warns (on p. 55) "Don't make the mistake of thinking you are supposed to do all these stretches (See chapter 2, p. 28)". When he says "all these stretches" does he mean not to do stretches for all parts of the body in one workout (neck, chest, shou...

Re: developing dynamic- sets/reps
Thank you for the reply Thomas, sorry for asking questions that you might have given answers to elsewhere. By the way, can any static passive stretch be turned into an isometric stretch by simply tensing the opposite way and relaxing? That is, can I convert pretty much every stretch that's in http:/...

Re: Combining legs and hand striking
Not really, the book is mainly about developing flexibility for all sports. Although there is a slight emphasis on kicking, it can't become a catch-all for all martial arts techniques.

Re: developing dynamic- sets/reps
Ah, I see it now. He doesn't swing his leg to the back, he's just leaning his trunk/pelvis forward in such a way that it just looks like his leg is going sideways and back. Also, according to the book (p. 131-132) and the column06, you need to tilt your pelvis forward and keep the knee bent. I was j...

Re: Generating discussion on this forum
To be honest, I love Mr. Kurz' sarcasm and general cheekiness, I usually just laugh instead of taking offense. In fact, that's the first thing I liked when I started reading his book and watching the videos.

Re: developing dynamic- sets/reps
Thanks CSta! Your help is greatly appreciated
Btw, any idea why Kurz does the side leg raises more to the back, rather than being in line with the other foot?

Re: developing dynamic- sets/reps
Thanks again :) But even more questions keep creeping up :P The book says on p. 14 that you should not do many more repetitions once you reach the maximal ROM in any direction so as not to set the muscle memory to this position. After reaching the maximal range of motion in a joint in any direction ...

Re: developing dynamic- sets/reps
Thanks CSta. But does every set start at the same level and slowly increases to the full ROM or once I reach the full ROM I don't have to start low and build up?CSta wrote:during.

Re: developing dynamic- sets/reps
Hi,
I would also like to get an answer about this, do I increase ROM during a set, or between sets? (that is, first set at waist level, second set at chest level, etc...)
Thanks
