Heart Rate Variability

How do you feel about using HRV (heart rate variability) products to control phases of training? These tools are relatively inexpensive and can be used through personal smartphones. Taking a daily reading allows the athlete or coach to see levels of CNS readiness, recovery, and fatigue and to plan t...

Polish Olympic Weightlifting Team Documentary

I wanted to share this series of videos highlighting the training of the Polish Olympic Weightlifting Team. I found this video fascinating. The athleticism and abundance of movement from these athletes is remarkable. Running in snow, balance training, circuits, handstand walking, tumbling, bounding,...

Gymnastics Strength Training

Do you believe that gymnastics-style strength training can be sufficient for the strength of a combat sports athlete? Can sufficient strength be developed without barbells, dumbells, and kettlebells? Re: Newsletters

Mr. Kurz,

Thank you for the reply. I would love to read the series that you did regarding aerobic training for strength and power athletes. Unfortunately I cannot remember the exact title but I think it was a 4-part series. My email is gnarl4@gmail.com.

Newsletters

Mr. Kurz, I have noticed you have recently changed your website. On the previous site, I was able to access your old newsletters, which had some of the best training information out there. I wanted to reference a few of them but am now unable to find them. Are they still available in any way? Thanks.

Re: Movnat

Do you think this type of training could serve as a main form of training for martial artists or other athletes? How could it be changed to be effective as so? Here is another video, something he calls combo training. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csWBf260ins Thank you for clearing up my comparison...

Movnat

Mr. Kurz, What is your opinion on this type of training/workout? Would you recommend it? It doesn't follow well with your work the Science of Sports Training because it seems to be anti-methodology and pro-doing random activities as they come upon you. What do you think? http://www.youtube.com/watch...

Re: Lack of flexibility knowledge in professional sports.

I see. Thank you for your reply. So if great performance is possible even with incorrect training methods for flexibility in a warm-up, why go through the dynamic leg swings for kicking if you can get good performance with just doing static stretching and following with a warm-up?

Re: Lack of flexibility knowledge in professional sports.

But if static stretching causes you to not be able to display top agility, speed, or most importantly of all, coordination, even if it precedes a warm-up, wouldn't it make the warm up worse which would make your performance worse? And many times, static stretching is the last thing done before athle...

Lack of flexibility knowledge in professional sports.

As a competitive athlete and a follower of Thomas Kurz's stretching and strengthening plans, I know the values of flexibility knowledge. Knowing how and when to stretch has been crucial to my sport career. But when I watch professional sport, even of the highest caliber and the best athletes, I see ...
