Re: Serious flexability problems

Hello Mongrol, I am in a similar situation to you, having taken up karate at 37 (I am now 40). I have been reading Mr Kurz's material for some time and hopefully I can provide some insights based on his recommendations and my own experiences. My initial side split flexibility was not much different ...

Re: cybex adductor machine

Hello David, Personally, I am not aware of anything claiming these machines as dangerous or ineffective, provided they allow you to exercise against resistance through the full range of motion. I suspect you are confusing this machine with the myriad of stretching machines available on the market wh...

Re: Proper back squat technique

CSta,

Glad I could have been of some assistance. I agree with Mr Kurz's advice - once you are comfortable with the technique, work on reducing the amount of heel elevation until it is not necessary. Thanks Tom for adding the important bits I probably should have said from the outset.

Re: Proper back squat technique

CSta, I come from a weightlifting background and the problem you have highlighted here is quite common among people that are new to back squats. Quite often, the problem is as much one of balance as it is flexibility. One of the ways this can be addressed is to elevate your heel when doing back squa...

Re: Correct form for Hindu Squats

Gentlemen,

Thanks for your help, and to Mr Kurz in particular, thanks for the advice in your article. I particularly liked the bit about much stupidity coming from experts that don't do what they claim expertise in.

Correct form for Hindu Squats

I have noticed a number of contributors to this forum have mentioned 'Hindu Squats' as helping them improve their ROM. I come from a weightlifting background and have always performed squats with my feet flat on the floor through the full ROM, although I note that in Mr Kurz's Fall 2007 article he s...

Re: Knee "popping"

Mr Kurz, Can you please explain your creative anatomy comment? At the time I wrote my response, I did not have my copy of Stretching Scientifically at hand (I made the mistake of lending it to a friend) and was therefore unable to refer Superfoot to the relevant page number. I have no wish to disput...

Re: Knee "popping"

The 'popping' noise you hear is most likely the movement of a bursa within the synovial fluid of the joint. This is what causes the noise when cracking knuckles as the bursa (a small air pocket) is squeezed through the tight space available in the joint. If indeed this is the cause, it is nothing to...

Re: Critique/Advice needed

Hello Prodigy, Based on the information you have provided, your stretching routine is pretty close to the mark. If I may offer some advice: Try and include a general warm up to your morning routine, approx 4 - 5 minutes of light cardio work, between your joint rotations and your dynamic stretching. ...

Thanks Cailifo. I think that is the source of my confusion. Mr Kurz demonstrates a low kiba dachi stance on the video, but it is another person that demonstrates the isometric stretches, and he does them with his legs straight. I am assuming that this means either method will work, however the kiba ...

Correct isometric stretches for side split

I have only recently discovered Thomas Kurz's products and would like to express my sincerest thanks to Mr Kurz for not only providing me a scientifically proven method of improving my flexibility, but also for not 'dumbing it down' the way most other texts on the subject seem to do. My question rel...
