The Five Tibetan Rites

http://www.mkprojects.com/pf_TibetanRites.htm My physio recently drew my attention to the above exercises. When we were discussing my ridiculasly short hamstrings, he told me to sit down on the edge of his table, to put my hands behind my back, chin to my chest, shoulders hunched forwards, and then...

Severe back pain after Kicks

One year ago, I intensified karate training for a tournament and after performing many roundhouse and back roundhouse kicks to thigh and stomach height, I had severe musclular pain on the left side of my lower back, just above the pelvis. It seemed to re-occur in the left lower back after a roundhou...

Re: High rep push-ups

Many thanks Mr Kurz.

I will get an experts opinion on what I'm doing wrong.

Once it's corrected its the 'Stairs' for me.

High rep push-ups

I need to increase the number of knuckle push-ups I can do in one set, for karate gradings. A few months ago, when I achieved 3 sets of 20 (90 secs rest between sets) and could progress no further, I added a 5kg weight on my back. The weight was always unstable despite strapping and probably too muc...

Re: Hindu Squats

Mr Kurz Many thanks for the video of the Hindu push-ups and squats, thats just about cleared that up. The pause at the upright position is what I wasn't doing, and so the breathing wasn't right, far too quick. Also, I have found the swing in the arms, which you demonstrate, seems to make them easier...

Hindu Squats

I'm really getting into these squats, I can at present do two sets of 75, and hoping to do 1 set of 100 soon. However, I've never had any any guidance on technique apart from descriptions on the net. I understand these should be done relatively fast. I have two problems I hope someone can help with....

Re: crunches and abductor flys - for women?

Mr Kurz I'm a little confused re your last reply, especially when you state Your abdomen is strong enough if it does not feel weak during back extensions on a bench (back bench or glute-ham developer). This is because Article 19 seems to have a more strict and defined criteria If your abdomen does n...

Re: What Muscles and What Exercises

Thanks for the repy CSta, I am 38 years old, I've been doing Kyokushinkai karate for nearly six years now. I had a 20 year break from karate which finished 18 months ago. When I started karate at 14 yrs old, my flexibility was as bad then as it is now. At 14 I was 6'2" tall and about 100 kg. Now I a...

What Muscles and What Exercises

Mr Kurz When I perform roundhouse and side kicks, if I turn my supporting leg and foot in the opposite direction, which is the correct way, the height of the kick lowers considerably. Or my hips turn away from the target too much and I kick downwards instead of to the side in the roundhouse to the h...

Re: adductor pulldowns

Jimmy, I have exactly the same problem, although I haven't progressed onto adductor pulldowns. When I perform the side leg raise, my feet have to be parallel. If the foot on the ground is turned away from the raising leg (as it should be for side and roundhouse kicks), the tightness in my hips does ...

Thanks for the reply Mr Kurz. I feel a break through coming on. My side leg raises are up to just over belt height and improving, and this is the height of my roundhouse. However, I cannot seem to get my pelvis rotated forwards when I roundhouse kick. When I perform a side leg raise, I can move my p...

Running machine

I've been using a running machine at a gym for the last 3 months for aerobic and anaerobic endurance. I've noticed a reduction in my flexibility where roundhouse kicks are concerned. Even waist height feels uncomfortable and my inner thighs and hips feel 'tight'. Mr Kurz advocates running as an aid ...

Dynamic raises for roundhouse kicks

Can anyone confirm which dynamic leg swing assits flexibility for a high roundhouse kick. I cannot see how the side leg swing equates to a roundhouse, and I believe the leg swing to the rear is the raise which may assist in roundhouse kicks, as Mr Kurz's leg is always depicted as turning outwards as...
